Truths about the Sanctity of Life
1. God is the author of life. All life comes from Him.
Acts 17:24-25 - “He is the God who made the world and everything in it. Since he is Lord of heaven and earth, he doesn’t live in man-made temples, 25 and human hands can’t serve his needs—for he has no needs. He himself gives life and breath to everything, and he satisfies every need.” (NLT)
John 1:4 - The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. (NLT)
2. Life is completely sustained by God.
Acts 17:28 - For in him we live and move and exist. As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring. (NLT)
Hebrews 1:3a - The Son radiates God’s own glory and expresses the very character of God, and he sustains everything by the mighty power of his command. (NLT)
Job 34:14-15 - If God were to take back his spirit and withdraw his breath, 15 all life would cease, and humanity would turn again to dust. (NLT)
3. Human life was made in God's image.
Genesis 1:27 - So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. (NLT)
4. Life begins in the womb.
Psalm 139:13, 16 - You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. 16 You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.
Jeremiah 1:4-5 - The Lord gave me this message: 5 “I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.”
E.g. Bible identifies 7 men even before they were conceived.
5. God alone has the right and authority over life and death
Deuteronomy 32:39 - See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god beside me; I kill and I make alive; I wound and I heal; and there is none that can deliver out of my hand.
1 Samuel 2:6 - The Lord kills and brings to life; he brings down to Sheol and raises up.
