Kenya - Day 8

Today started off with an early morning flight from Mozambique to South Africa to Kenya.  We had to get to the airport at 5 am for our 655 flight.  Although it was early, we actually made it to the airport early, although we had gotten a few texts from Pastor Daniel that we had forgotten some items at his house the night before.  Hopefully some of his friends will enjoy Damon's running shoes and some other items we left behind.

The flight to Soth Africa was a little over an hour, the we had a 3 hour layover and then another 5 hour flight to Nairobi. Fortunately for us all of the trips through customs were very smooth and our travels were not too bad.  A few of us even got in a decent nap on the planes.  When we arrived in Nairobi, Mike met us with 2 drivers and we went directly to visit the Mathari slum.  It was recently ravaged by a flood and many lost their homes, and more were displaced when the government told them they had to move shelters at least 30 meters from the nearby river. In the slum, we visited Mcebo Beijing School.  The school is from babies to high school, and although school was already out for the day, we were able to meet some of the teachers and students.  We were able to pray for some of the teachers, and it was evident that they desired the prayers and wanted to receive them.  Then we were able to walk around the slum to get a taste of what it's like for people to live there.  There are a lot of kids living there.  It was a very eye opening experience that will be difficult to forget.  After returning to the school, we saw one of the newer programs where they teach sewing to the students.  It's an entrepreneurial program to produce products that can be sold to help raise money for the school.  We were able to spend some time blessing that program before we headed off to dinner.  We were able to enjoy a really nice meal at a local mal before checking into the hotel and getting some much needed rest after a long travel day and slum visit.
